FÖMO introduces a taste of Portugal in Sweden with Real Nata

Until recently, the authentic pastel de nata, an egg-custard tart with a crispy crust, required a trip to Portugal. But now Real Nata is popping up in FÖMO, Gothenburg’s unique concept pop-up store. The pastel de nata, which means cream pastry in Portuguese, was said to have been invented in a Belem monastery by monks and have become an international hit, centuries after its creation. Real Nata the street food truck franchise by Panidor, hales directly from Portugal is bringing this tasty treat to thousands of people who cannot get enough of the texture and taste of pastel de nata.

Real Nata is part of a family-based business with 25 years experience in the bakery industry. The founder and original baker, Pedro Mendes developed an artisan recipe shrouded in secrecy that today is still recreated in their factory in Portugal. The result is a crunchy base that wraps itself around the deliciously creamy and unique filling, producing an unrivalled snack that is considered one of the top best culinary experiences in the world. Real Nata is determined to become a daily necessity for locals all over the world. The speciality pastel de nata business is growing at a healthy pace. With top vendors selling uptown 700 pastries per day, in the past 5 years, there is a major growth in sales year-on-year.

“We are looking for franchise partners to reach new markets with a goal to make Real Nata the number one destination for pastel de nata in every city”, said Suzi Gaspar, Project Manager for Real Nata franchise.

“FÖMO incubates brands and also provides an opportunity for businesses to showcase their technology, services and solutions to other businesses in the retail sector. It is a key part of our approach to serving our community by testing concepts and at the same time reducing the barriers and costs for brands to enter the market, allowing international and local retailers to pop-up with us,” said Ilona Taillade, Co-founder of the FÖMO Store.

The FÖMO (FEAR OF MISSING OUT) Store, born in Gothenburg, Sweden in late 2018 is a flagship pop-up concept store focused on a physical lifestyle magazine format.  It is the gateway for international and local brands to test the market. FÖMO provides a new shopping experience and retailtainment including f&b and an event venue with the motto “shop, play and relax”. A modern-day micro-department store, it also creates opportunities for business to business development.

FÖMO curates the content of the store and creates themes with the changing seasons where multiple brands have limited time to showcase and showroom their designs. Co-working, event initiatives and workshops all form the creation of an environment centred on the community. People have the chance to shop, learn, be entertained and experience something different.

The concept was nine years in the making by co-founders, Ilona Taillade, CEO of BrandSpots: a RaaS (Retail as a Service) agency and consultancy and Leon Goldwater, CEO of We Are Pop Up: a matchmaking online platform for retailers and property owners.

FÖMO is constantly evolving to set the stage for the developments of new flexible retail models as well as being an incubator for retail concepts, the aim is to innovate and drive change in the retail sector. FÖMO is currently looking for locations in Europe to open new stores.
