FCC´s board of directors names Rafael Montes new Managing Director (ES)

The Board of Directors of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), upon the recommendation of Esther Koplowitz, yesterday named Rafael Montes Sánchez Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Group.

The new Managing Director, until now an FCC Vice President and the person responsible for the Services Area, will focus his efforts on developing the new strategic plan and reinforcing FCC as a company of reference in its fields of activity.

Rafael Montes - who joined the former Construcciones y Contratas at the end of the sixties at the invitation of Ramón Areces, the Chairman of the company at that time - has spearheaded the diversification of FCC, positioning it as a leader in all public service areas.

During his protracted professional career with FCC, Rafael Montes has also been the Director of the Studies Service, the person responsible for the real estate area and managing director of the former Construcciones y Contratas; all of which makes him an expert in the Group´s activities.

Marcelino Oreja, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, announced at the meeting his intention to resign from his office at the beginning of next year coinciding with his 70th birthday.

The Board of Directors also approved the incorporation of Dominum Dirección y Gestión, S.A. represented by Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz; accepted the resignation of the three Veolia representatives (Marc Louis Reneaume, Serge Michel and Paul-Louis Girardot) and agreed to appoint Francisco Vicent Chuliá, a professor of mercantile law at the University of Valencia, the (non-member) secretary of the Board.

New Leader of the Services Area
Also at the meeting, the Board of Directors of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas agreed to propose José Luis de la Torre as the President of the Services Area of FCC, whose activities are carried out through FCC Medioambiente, Aqualia and Versia.

An industrial engineer, de la Torre came to FCC from the former Fomento de Obras y Construcciones (Focsa) in 1969 and is one of our country´s most highly qualified service management professionals.

De la Torre has been a key player in the diversification of the Group, where he has taken part in all of FCC´s activities: water management, transport, urban and toxic waste, urban furniture, etc. He also managed the process of opening up service activity to countries abroad, with the introduction of services in the United Kingdom and Latin America.

Since 2000, José Luis de la Torre has been the managing director of the Services Area of the FCC Group.
