Euronext : number of trades in cash products up 14% year-to-date

Between January and August 2002, Euronext cash markets recorded a total number of 89 941 052 transactions, up 14.1% year-to-date. The average daily number of cash product transactions grew in the same proportion during this period, and by 43.1% between August 2001 and August 2002.

In August pure share transactions grew by 38.7% on August 2001, totalling 10 110 954. Since January, trading in shares was up 15.7% year-to-date. The Euronext electronic orderbook turnover in shares is stable compared to August 2001, totalling €115.3 billion, averaging a daily trading value of €5.2 billion.

Concerning Trackers, Euronext is still far ahead in terms of market capitalization with 68% of the total assets under management in Europe in August. Since January, the number of transactions on Trackers is up 115.9% year-to-date.

In August, the Euronext 100 blue chip index and the Next 150 index were respectively slightly down by 0.4% and 1.8% compared to July 2002.

As of 30 August 2002, the market capitalisation of the 1,517 companies listed on Euronext markets totalled €1,635 billion.
