Eurinpro and Amazon join forces for a 70.000 m² fulfilment center in Leipzig (DE)

Eurinpro has signed an agreement with global online retailer Amazon.de for the development of an over 70.000 m² warehouse in the East German city of Leipzig. Amazon contacted Eurinpro in its search for additional fulfilment capacity in Germany. Amazon.des growth and product range expansion made the company look for additional capacity. The new fulfilment centre will create up to 400 jobs within the next 36 months. Construction starts in March 2006.

As part of its solution, Eurinpro looked for the optimal location for Amazon.des new logistics centre. Determining factors in the site selection were Amazons consistent strong growth and the peak times in the run-up to Christmas when many seasonal employees need to be accomodated.

Christian Bischoff, Country Manager Eurinpro Germany explains: The site lies only 2 km from Leipzig city centre and 2 km from the A14 highway. Furthermore, the warehouse will offer connection to one of the main roads that leads into Leipzig centre. Thanks to the on-site tram stop, the facility will be easily accessible for those employed there. Furthermore, Leipzig currently proves to be a hot spot within Germany, attracting big German industries such as BMW, Porsche and DHL.

Paul Niewerth, General Manager Amazon Logistik Bad Hersfeld, says: As Amazon.de has grown and weve expanded the selection to include product categories with larger-sized items, such as Electronics and Kitchen and Home, we need additional capacity to accommodate these bulkier items.
