Dutch architect Ben van Berkel to give lecture at Design Why? event, Salone del Mobile, Milan (NL/IT)

At the 'Design Why?' event in Milan on April 23 renowned Dutch architect Ben van Berkel (UNStudio) will present his first chair design 'MYChair', awarded with the international Red Dot award: Best of Best prize product design 2009. The multidisciplinary programme 'Design Why?' runs parallel to the Salone del Mobile and consists of contributions from Design Den Haag 2010-2018, the Royal Academy of Art The Hague, Premsela and Dutch DFA.

MYchair

MYchair is described as a real architect's chair.

During the presentation Jeanne Tan (editor Design.nl) will interview Ben van Berkel. They will address topics such as how the diversity of contemporary society influences design, architecture and visual communication. Where does design stand today and what will it look like tomorrow?

MYchair is the first chair designed by Ben van Berkel/UNStudio and is described as a real architect's chair.

"The architectural approach to furniture is different from that of the industrial designer as the architect begins with the space and the environment that the chair will become a part of. All the details of the chair are considered for their spatial effects. This architectural approach to furniture is connected with a very personal ideology of space."

MYchair will be presented at the 'Design Why?' event as well as at the Salone Del Mobile 2009 at the Walter Knoll stand (Hall 7 Stand A19/A21).
