Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, one of the largest and most successful European real estate fund managers, has appointed Edward Bates as a Principal. He joins Doughty Hanson next month.
Edward Bates was formerly an Investment Director at Orion Capital Managers, a European real estate firm, where he was involved in fund-raising, acquisitions, asset management and disposals across Europe. He has a strong track record of investment and development experience in the major European markets.
Before joining Orion in 1999, Edward was a Vice President at the Clarkson Group, a private real estate investment and development company, based in the US. He has a BA in Mathematics and Economics from Hampden-Sydney College and attended INSEAD (Executive Education).
As a member of the real estate management team, he will work closely with John Howard, Head of Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, to further the overall investment strategy of Doughty Hanson & Co European Real Estate Fund II as well as originating and leading transactions across the Fund's target investment markets.

Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate Fund II's strategy is to leverage its presence in eight offices across Europe, using its property experience and active management to create value. It is targeting investment and development opportunities in Italy, France, Spain, the Germanic Region, the Nordic Region and the UK by working closely with public and corporate vendors and occupiers to provide Real Estate Solutions.
Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate Fund II closed in 2006 and has now completed seven investments representing 245.3 million of equity or 41.6% of the Fund.
Recent investments include Blythe Valley Park, the premier business park in the Midlands, UK from British Land plc and a 50% interest in Aranco, a Spanish residential developer operating in the primary-residence market.
