Deutsche Post and Alpha Industrial are building Germany's largest parcel center (DE)

The logistics real estate specialist Alpha Industrial is realizing one of the biggest investments on the German logistics market in 2012 together with the world's leading postal and logistics group Deutsche Post. In Obertshausen, with direct access to the A3 motorway, they are building a modern, 40,000 m² logistics facility on a 140,000 m² property, which will serve the DAX corporation as a central hub in the future.

The excavation work is to start this year, and completion is scheduled for the end of 2013. Deutsche Post wants to put the new parcel distribution centre into operation in the autumn of 2014, once the materials handling technology has been installed. The centre will then be able to handle up to 50,000 parcels an hour and will create around 600 new jobs.

"After erecting the global warehouse for Fresenius Medical Care AG near Darmstadt in 2008, Alpha Industrial is now again involved in one of the biggest investments on the logistics market this year," says Jörg Schröder, Managing Partner at Alpha Industrial.

The logistics real estate specialist most recently supervised the construction of a logistics building for an e-commerce subsidiary of the European electronic goods retail chain Media-Saturn-Holding, in the Erfurt logistics centre GVZ, and it is currently developing modern logistics space at the top logistics venue Munich on a speculative basis.

At the same time, Alpha Industrial is one of the leading asset managers in the field of logistics and industrial properties in Germany, with more than 700,000 m² under its management.
