Competition hots up for space at ICSC 2011 Retail Connections (EU)

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is holding the 2011 Retail Connections on March 31, 2011 at the Business Design Centre, London and competition for space between developers is fierce. This is Europe's only deal-making event for leading professionals and retailers to meet in one place on one day.

Retail Connections was launched in 2008.

Retail Connections was launched in 2008. It quickly more than doubled in size and became highly valued by the shopping center and retail industry which appreciates ICSC's focus on providing an environment where the sole objective is to meet and do deals, saving thousands in both travel costs and time.

ICSC Managing Director, Ermine Amies, who pioneered the event in 2008 said: "This is the best speed-dating game in Europe. We provide refreshments throughout the day to keep the momentum and atmosphere going. To cement new relationships, we host an after-event cocktail reception which seems to start later and later as delegates determined to squeeze everything they can out of the day before relaxing."

This year, delegates will be invited to a sneak preview of Westfield's Stratford City shopping center the following day. Westfield will also be at Retail Connections for the first time. Westfield Stratford City will include over 300 brands anchored by John Lewis, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer and a 14-screen Vue cinema, all attracting a 4.1 million catchment population.

Last year, Richard Collyer at Abercrombie and Fitch, said: "ICSC's Retail Connections is by far the most effective event of its kind for me."
