City District Amsterdam-North presents new urban plan

The City District Amsterdam-North presented a draft new urban plan, which should transform Amsterdam-North into a lively city center. The plan comprises 3,500 houses, office space of up to 150,000 m2, an increase in retail space, a cinema, a large Ikea outlet, an indoor sports center and an education center.

Total investment is estimated at well over EUR 2 bln. Partners include City District of Amsterdam-North, ING Real Estate and a consortium of Amstelland Ontwikkelingen, Blauwhoed Eurowoningen, Housing Association Â'het OostenÂ' and Vesteda, which will work under the name CZAN CV. The whole plan will be under the supervision of architect and urban designer Sjoerd Soeters.

It is expected that contracts with the project developers will be signed early 2003, upon which construction work may start immediately.
