Dutch hotel company citizenM opened its second hotel in Amsterdam's city center last week. The hotel has 215 rooms and is located next to Amsterdam's main business district 'Zuidas', the RAI conference center and the Amsterdam WTC.
The hotel is located at walking distance from the upmarket 'Old South' district, with its abundance of high-end restaurants and retail. The historic city center is reachable by tram and metro within a few minutes.
The motto of citizenM is 'Affordable Luxury for the People'. With its innovative hotel concept citizenM aims to attract 'Mobile Citizens of the World': frequent travelling, lifestyle oriented, selective, but also cost conscious cosmopolites.
In the summer of 2008 citizenM opened its first hotel at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, on a terminal-linked location. citizenM is planning to roll out its concept to major cities across Europe in the next 5 years. A development site in Glasgow's city center has already been acquired, negotiations are ongoing in several other cities, with a current focus in London. Besides Europe, the hotel company is also considering expansion to other parts of the world, such as Asia and North America.
In the past year citizenM has won several industry awards for its innovative concept and its design, such as the prestigious 'Hotel Design of the Year' Award in London, the Global Hospitality Award for 'Best Innovative Concept' in Paris and a spot on the 'Condé Nast Traveller Hotlist 2009'.
