Central & Eastern European Real Estate Quality Awards for 2005

Central & Eastern Europe's most prestigious industry awards event, the CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPEAN REAL ESTATE QUALITY AWARDS, is delighted to announce that Sándor Demján, founder and Chairman of TriGranit Development Corporation and one of Hungary's most influential businessmen, will attend this year's event to receive the CEE Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr Demján was also responsible for the establishment of the first commercial bank in Hungary, Hungarian Credit Bank, and in cooperation with renowned Canadian businessman Andrew Sarlós founded the Central European Investment Corporation and Central European Development Corporation. TriGranit, now one of the region's most important commercial real estate developers, emerged from a joint venture between Mr Demján's Gránit Pólus Investment and TrizecHahn in 1997.

The award is given to individuals who have made an outstanding and sustained contribution to the growth of the Central & Eastern European real estate investment and development sector since the collapse of Communism in 1989. Previous winners of the award include Eugene Golub, founder and president of Amercian developer Golub & Co and its European offshoot GE Captial Golub, and David Mitzner, founder and president of the influential property investment company Apollo Rida.

Nominations for this year's awards – given to real estate developments, companies active in the CEE region including investors, banks, developers and commercial services companies, and also to individual professionals active in the industry in the CEE region that have achieved outstanding recognition and success in 2005 – have closed for this year, with over 300 nominations from across the region. The Quality Awards Jury is comprised of senior executives from across the sector who score the nominations against published criteria, with the short-lists for each award announced in advance of the event. The final winners are decided by the Jury from the short-lists at a special jury dinner the night before the event and are announced at the prestigious Quality Awards gala dinner and ceremony on 7th February at the InterContinental Warsaw Hotel.

Project Management company EC Harris has emerged as winners of the CEE Commercial Services Company of the Year award for the past two years, and are in line for a hat-trick of successes. Mike Pearce, Senior European Partner of EC Harris, said:

"These are the most important awards for our sector in the Central & Eastern European region. We are very proud to have won this award for the last two years but there are a lot of good companies out there in this category including law firms, accountants and other service providers, so it is great news even to be considered for the hat-trick!"

In addition to a new award for CEE Building Design of the Year announced in November of last year, a further award has been created in response to a flood of nominations for construction companies, which previously came under the commercial services category. The CEE Construction Company of the Year award brings the total of awards to 18.
