Capital & Regional plc, the co-investing property asset manager, has announced the appointment of Philip Newton as a non-executive director with effect from 28 July 2006.
Philip Newton is the former chief executive of Merchant Retail Group plc. Under his leadership Merchant Retail developed The Perfume Shop into one of the UK's most successful specialist retailers, with over 130 shops. It was acquired by Hutchison Whampoa in 2005. During his career, he has had extensive experience across a range of retailing businesses as well as an active involvement in the commercial property market.
Tom Chandos, chairman of Capital & Regional, said: "Philip Newton's successful record in both the retail and property businesses makes him a valued addition to the Capital & Regional board. His entrepreneurial approach will be challenging and stimulating for our team and we are delighted that he has agreed to join the board."
