Buchanan House in Glasgow set to be demolished for resi complex (GB)

Plans to demolish the currently vacant Buchanan House at Cowcaddens in Glasgow have been recommended for approval. The property will be replaced with a modern housing complex. This project has been initiated by Davidson Kempner and Global Mutual and aims to create 519 build-to-rent flats and 76 private sale homes at Port Dundas Road.

A new development is set to change Glasgow's skyline with buildings ranging from seven to twenty-one storeys, driving economic growth, population, and job creation in the city center and Cowcaddens district. The project includes residential spaces, ground-floor commercial units, a gym, library, games room, and a sky bar offering panoramic views of the city.

The project has faced objections over its scale, lack of affordable housing, and social impacts. However, the city planners have emphasized the project's design evaluation and alignment with community and citywide objectives. The project promises a mix of apartments, a dedicated community space, play areas, an outdoor gym, rain gardens, and roof terraces to enhance residents' quality of life. Sustainability is also a priority, with the provision of bike spaces and limited car parking facilities.

In a statement, the developers claimed “Residents of the approximately 600 new sustainable homes will have access to a plethora of amenities including roof terraces and residents gardens, lounges, gym, and wellness and private dining rooms.
