Bristol Alliance announces 'Cabot Circus' name for £500m Bristol city center development (UK)

The Bristol Alliance, a joint venture between Land Securities and Hammerson, have announced the launch of the new name for the €500 million development of Bristol city center – 'Cabot Circus'.

To coincide with the launch of the full name for the city center expansion, The Bristol Alliance will have title sponsorship of 'Sequins and Sawdust' an exciting collaboration between Cirque Bijou, London-based Circus Space and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. The highly original circus performance will bring together some of the UK's most talented performers to tell a magical story of life behind the scenes at the circus.

Last November, The Bristol Alliance revealed that 'Cabot' would form the basis of a new identity for the development following a period of consultation in which local people were invited to comment on a shortlist of three potential names - 'Cabot', 'Great West' and 'All Saints'. 'Cabot' was selected after receiving majority public support. Since the announcement of 'Cabot', the team has concentrated on identifying an appropriate suffix and reviewed many different suggestions before 'Cabot Circus' was chosen.

Rob Graham, marketing manager for The Bristol Alliance, commented on the name: "We were looking for an identity that reflected the bustle and vibrancy of a thriving city center. 'Cabot Circus' allows us to do this - while creating a focus for the area and a destination for visitors to the city."

Cirque Bijou company manager, Jo Hunter added: "We are very excited to be working in partnership with the Bristol Alliance. This opportunity has allowed us to bring the cream of the UK's new talent to Bristol and London to create an innovative, diverse performance of an international calibre."
