BREEAM registrations and certifications for ICSC members continue to grow. Over 40 developments in 13 countries have now registered for assessment around 1500 are registered in total including the UK. BREEAM awarded final certification for a growing number of sites from developers that include Redevco, Multi, Wilhelm & Co and Unibail-Rodamco.
At the end of 2009, ICSC assisted with the launch of the BREEAM Europe Retail scheme. "The new scheme is attracting a lot of attention from ICSC members who want to demonstrate a higher level of sustainability," says BREEAM Europe manager, Anne Aubree. "Developers also see the scheme's value in helping to market new developments and attract tenants."
The Netherlands has completed local adaptation of the scheme. Spain, France, Turkey and Latvia are in the process of adapting the scheme. Other national Green Building Councils are investigating the scheme to facilitate access to it in local languages.
