Approval for Hammerson's Principal Place scheme (UK)

The London Borough of Hackney resolved to grant consent for Hammerson's new proposals for Principal Place at its planning committee on July 6, 2011.

The 111,000-m² flagship project designed by Foster + Partners will deliver a single 57,000-m² 16-story office building offering large floor plates and flexibility to occupiers.

Leading law firm CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has selected Principal Place for its new head office location and Hammerson is in discussions to provide them with 18,580 m² of office space.

Complementing the lower rise office building is an elegantly designed residential tower offering 243 private apartments, with an additional 56 affordable units located on site.

A main square at street level will open up the area with retail units and restaurants. The project also includes the restoration of 233 Shoreditch High Street (The Light Bar Building).

David Atkins, Hammerson Chief Executive commented: "The support from the planning committee signifies the importance of Principal Place in the continued regeneration of Hackney. The scheme will deliver high quality office accommodation alongside a landmark residential tower in a convenient, vibrant location."

The planning consent for Principal Place follows planning resolution last week for Hammerson's 46,450-m² London Wall Place scheme in the City.
