Amsterdam to tackle housing problem

The Amsterdam Municipal Executive wishes to ensure that some 16,000 new homes will be built in the period to 2006.

New building is an important prerequisite for stimulating mobility and adequate supply in the housing market, so that students, for example, will find it easier to find accommodation. The authorities have set aside some EUR 30 million to speed up housing production. Those concerned will shortly be able to discuss a number of unorthodox measures involved in a public consultation process, on which the Municipal Council will be making a decision in December.
