Amstelland MDC acquires the California site in Harderwijk

Amstelland MDC (development of urban centres, shopping centres, houses and offices) and Struik Holding NV have reached an agreement about the sale of the California Soepen factory site near the centre of Harderwijk, the Netherlands. Together with the municipal authority, Amstelland MDC will develop part of the 2.2 hectare site for residential purposes.

Surrounded by housing estates, the California factory site is a mere ten-minute walk to the south-east of Harderwijk’s centre. The site’s redevelopment will accommodate the municipality’s wish to relocate industrial activity outside of the town. Completion of the last dwellings will be in 2007. In collaboration with the municipal authority, Amstelland will prepare a detailed urban planning and residential programme based on market research.

Transfer of Struik’s activities
During the course of 2003, Struik will transfer the Harderwijk operations to its factory in Voorthuizen. Struik will then begin the demolition of the factory and clear the site.

Regional function
Within the Noordwest-Veluwe region, Harderwijk plays a key role with regard to living, working and tourism. Harderwijk is a popular place of residence, offering many house hunters from neighbouring municipalities a place to live.
