AM (Amstelland MDC) opens sixth shopping centre in Portugal

On 8 April 2003 shopping centre Forum Montijo has been opened with a ceremony for 2,500 guests. Situated in Montijo in the Lissabon region, Forum Montijo shopping centre comprises 57,000 m² of retail and public space and will be anchored by a Carrefour hypermarket with 17,500 m². The total investment amounts to € 130 million. With Forum Madeira and Forum Viseu, AM has another two Portuguese shopping centres under construction.

Forum Montijo comprises new shops that, for the first time, open in the area south to the River Tagus, such as Hennes & Mauritz and Decathlon. Other large retailers are Zara and Sportzone. With an important leisure component, the project will also have six theatre cinemas Warner Lusomundo. Forum Montijo has 3,900 parking places.

Innovative architectural concept
The complex was designed by T+T Design and Graphos Arquitectos. The architecture reflects the traditional building style of this rural area. Particular attention has been paid to the public spaces and the integration of the centre with its surroundings, in co-operation with landscape architects Broadway Malyan Landscape.

Forum Montijo has several public art features that valorise the public areas and create modern and quality environments. These art features were specially designed for Forum Montijo and include both Portuguese and foreign artists, such as Javier Barba, Guilherme Parente, Willem Rutgers, Araci Tanan and Sérgio Pereira da Silva.

Parties involved
Forum Montijo is owned by Commerz Grundbesitz Investmentgesellschaft mbH (CGI) and Carrefour Portugal SA. T+T Design is responsible for its concept. The architects involved were T + T Design, Graphos Arquitectos and Broadway Malyan Landscape.
