Altera acquires ALDI supermarket in Rotterdam (NL)

Altera has purchased a supermarket in the centre of Zwijndrecht, Rotterdam Metropolitan Area. With this acquisition, Altera strengthens its food & convenience portfolio, which has recently been named by GRESB and BREEAM as the most sustainable portfolio in the world. Vendor Tres Invest BV initiated the development of a new retail space, adding lettable floor area and adapting the asset to match the tenant's requirements. At the end of 2019, ALDI opened its doors with its revamped store concept – centre-staging fresh food products. The supermarket of approximately 1,350m² is located on the outside of the shopping centre "Walburg", in the centre of Zwijndrecht directly next to the free parking lot with 128 spaces.

This latest acquisition follows Altera’s purchases of four convenience centres in Amstelveen, Uithoorn, De Meern and Leusden respectively and two standalone supermarkets in Zeist and Hilversum in 2019. The supermarket now joins Altera's sustainable food & convenience portfolio. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Jaap van der Bijl, CEO of Altera: "By adding the supermarket to our portfolio, we are giving further substance to our investment strategy, which is fully focused on food & convenience. A strategy that suits institutional investors particularly well: a higher direct return, sustainable and less sensitive to e-commerce and cyclical changes in the economy".
