Aedas Architects pick up award for Star Wars building (SG)

A design by international architecture practice, Aedas, for a headquarters building for Star Wars creator Lucasfilm in Singapore has won this year's prestigious International Architecture Award.

The Sandcrawler is named after a sci-fi vehicle featured in the Star Wars films. The 10-story headquarters building will comprise state of the art production facilities along with 24,000 m² of office space within a metallic glass horseshoe block floating 13m above the ground. It will also include a double-height, 100-seat cinema. Construction is under way and is due to be completed next year

The International Architecture Awards are coordinated by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. The Awards recognize the best, new significant buildings and landscape and planning projects designed and/or built around the world

In October 2011, the project will be exhibited together with other awarded buildings in Buenos Aires during the 13th International Architecture Bienniale.
