€341 mln Maidenhead regeneration gets green light in time for Crossrail (UK)

A landmark €341 mln (£250 mln) regeneration scheme for a key site in Maidenhead town centre was given the green light last night in a unanimous Council vote. The decision paves the way for over 182,880 m2 (gross) of new offices, retail and homes to be delivered in the Thames Valley town in time for the arrival of Crossrail services in 2019.



‘The Landing’ was approved by councillors at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in a major step forward for a development just 100 m from the future Crossrail station. The regeneration of the 1.3 hectare ‘Broadway’ site in Maidenhead town centre is being brought forward by Ryger Maidenhead Ltd, through London & Aberdeen Group.



Designed by Studio Egret West and Allies & Morrison, The Landing aims to deliver a spectacular new gateway for the town, providing 79,248 m2 (net) of Grade A office accommodation and setting a new high standard for major HQ office buildings in Maidenhead. The scheme also provides up to 225 new residential units of one, two and three bedrooms and 14,630 m2 (net) of retail, set around an expansive central plaza.



“Local representatives have been at the heart of the design process for The Landing. The scheme has a clear role to play in helping Maidenhead maintain its place as a pre-eminent destination in the Thames Valley, creating a spectacular meeting place, new jobs, economic activity and a hub linking all parts of the town centre together.”



The completion of The Landing in 2019 will coincide with the commencement of Crossrail services in Maidenhead. The new services will cut journey times into central London to less than 40 minutes, with access to the city in less than 50 minutes.



The scheme is being brought forward by Ryger Maidenhead Ltd – a joint venture between London & Aberdeen Group and investors and long-term associates, Smedvig of Norway – which initiated the comprehensive development after acquiring the King’s Triangle site from ING RED in December 2013. The joint venture has developed the vision for the site in close partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, following an architectural competition.
