World Retail Congress unveils 2013 award winners

French luxury group LVMH was named ‘International Retailer’ of the year last night, at the World Retail Awards black tie gala dinner last night. The award was collected by the former CEO and Chairman of Louis Vuitton, Yves Carcelle, who was also presented with the ‘Outstanding Leadership Award’, for his service to the global luxury industry.


Whole Foods, the US organic food company, scooped the prestigious award for ‘Retailer of the Year’, following in the footsteps of leading retailers including Tesco and Inditex. The LA based company organic food company was given the accolade on the same day that it opened its latest store in Richmond, London.


The World Retail Awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate inspiring retail excellence.


Ian McGarrigle, Chairman of the World Retail Congress, commented: “We are delighted with the wide international reach of this year’s winners and that for the first time, we are presenting an award to an African retailer. This year’s winners are fantastic representatives from the global retail community and true leaders in their field.”


Over 500 senior figures from the global retail industry gathered at the Salle Wagram in Paris for the 2013 World Retail Awards. Key attendees at the black tie gala dinner included Sir Philip Green, CEO of Arcadia, Martha Stewart, Mickey Drexler, CEO of J.Crew Group, Yves Carcelle, Former CEO of Louis Vuitton, Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSN and Richard Simonin Chairman & CEO of Limoni Group, amongst many others.


The awards are short listed and then voted on by a team of 16 Global CEO's.


This year’s judges included: Ian Cheshire, Group Chief Executive, Kingfisher plc; Bernie Brookes, CEO, Myer Ltd; Gordon Campbell, CEO, Spar International; Paul Charron, Chairman, Campbell Soup Company; Rick Darling, President, DSG and Vice Chairman Li & Fung US; Mindy Grossman, CEO, HSN Inc; plus numerous other high profile figures from the retail industry.
