Real I.S. acquires prime mixed-use asset in Hamburg (DE)

Real I.S. has acquired Sumatrakontor in Hamburg’s HafenCity on behalf of an individual investor. The multifunctional, ten-storey building was constructed in 2010 and compromises over 30,000m² of GLA. In addition to flexible office and retail units, Sumatrakontor also includes 86 residential units, with 445 parking spaces available in the Uberseequartier’s underground parking garage. The building’s sandstone and glass facade transitions in colour from lime green to chestnut brown in response to daylight, a feature that has quickly established it as one of HafenCity’s undisputed architectural highlights. The parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transaction.

“HafenCity is one of the most important urban development projects in Europe. Sumatrakontor is a commanding presence in the heart of Uberseequartier, in the very centre of HafenCity. The building’s striking architectonic appearance makes it a worthy addition to this special location,” said Axel Schulz, Global Head of Investment Management at Real I.S. AG.

CBRE brokered the deal and advised the seller. Real I.S. received legal advice from Noerr LLP and technical advice from Drees & Sommer.
