The Rotterdam City Council and project developer Provast have reached an agreement concerning the construction of an enormous covered market on the Binnenrotte in Amsterdam.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of Rotterdam have approved the sale of the land to Provast. The project will be constructed on the 1.5-hectare Grotemarkt location in the Laurenskwartier. Completion is scheduled for 2009. The covered market is important for the Laurenskwartiers transformation into an exciting district. The developer has referred to the building as an 'icon for the city, a cathedral for Rotterdam'.
