PGGM Board of Governors appoints Heino van Essen as Chairman of the Executive Directors (NL)

The Board of Governors of PGGM, the pension fund for the healthcare and social work sector, has today resolved to appoint Mr. H.J. (Heino) van Essen as Chairman of PGGM's Executive Directors. This appointment is subject to the approval of the Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).

Since March 2006, when Mr. K.J. (Karel) Noordzij left PGGM, the Executive Directors have comprised Ms. E.F. (Else) Bos and Mr. L.C. (René) van de Kieft, with Mr. Van Essen as acting Chairman.

The Board of Governors of PGGM is currently engaged in intensive consultation on the fund's future strategy with the employers' and employees' representatives in the healthcare and social work sector and their constituencies. This consultation addresses such issues as segregation of policymaking and implementation, pension fund governance and expansion of services for the healthcare and social work sector to deliver integrated income provision built on a sound pension scheme.

The Board of Governors of PGGM has asked Heino van Essen to take on the chairmanship of the Executive Directors during the decision-making and strategic planning phases. Once implementation of the new strategy is under way, the Board of Governors intends to review the composition of the Executive Directors and the number of members of that body.
