Being Development announces Aloft Utrecht hotel (NL)

Being Development, in collaboration with Lakenvelder Investment Group, have announced the development of a 224-room hotel, Aloft Utrecht, in the heart of Leidsche Rijn Center.

The hotel, designed by OZ Architects, will be the first WELL CertifiedTM hotel in the world. WELL is a certification that focuses on both sustainability, health and well-being. In addition, the building will receive a LEED certificate. Therefore, the city of Utrecht will add an extremely sustainable hotel. Aloft Utrecht will open its doors in 2020, construction will start in the summer of this year.

The hotel has a long-term lease with Odyssey Hotel Group, an internationally active hotel management company, that will operate Aloft Utrecht. Odyssey Hotel Group has signed a franchise agreement with Marriott International, owner of Aloft.

Bas van Dam, Being Development, commented: “We are very proud to announce that Utrecht has chosen us to realize a hotel in the heart of this new city centre. Aloft Utrecht will become the tallest building located on Brussel square. This, in combination with the elegant design by OZ Architects, will result in the status of a landmark. We are delighted to create, together with Odyssey Hotel Group and Marriott International, an energetic place for visitors and residents.“

Kees Geldof said: “Utrecht is delighted that Marriott International will settle in Leidsche Rijn Center with this wonderful concept. This hotel will be a fantastic addition for visitors and businesses and will contribute to a lively Leidsche Rijn Center. “

Chris Zwiers, partner at OZ Architects, said: "Hotel Leidsche Rijn communicates a timeless architecture. It is often difficult to discover the Genius Loci, the spirit of a place. And yet, this is necessary for architecture. Hotel Leidsche Rijn proves that timeless architecture is not a style, but an attitude. It reflects authenticity and creates a lively and meaningful atmosphere."

Being Development was advised by Colliers International Hotels and DLA Piper.
