Jones Lang LaSalle wins two RFP Outstanding Individuals in Industry Awards

Jones Lang LaSalle has won two prestigious industry accolades at the RFP Outstanding Individuals in Industry Awards 2009. The awards, which are in their second year, celebrate the contributions of professionals who make up the industries of the built environment in Asia Pacific.

Jones Lang LaSalle's Asia Pacific Chairman, Peter Barge won the Outstanding Individual award in the Business Development category for his instrumental role in the formation and launch of Sandalwood, a retail joint venture partnership between Jones Lang LaSalle and Colonial First State Property Management. As creator of the concept behind Sandalwood, Mr Barge demonstrated strong business acumen in thinking out of the box, finding the right partner and committing to the establishment of a new business model that is geared to deliver maximum return on retail investments. Together with the senior management teams at Jones Lang LaSalle and Colonial First State Property Management, he brought Sandalwood to life, with the new company officially launched in April 2008.

Sandalwood, a full service premium property provider of retail asset management and development services across Asia now has more than 400 employees serving a significant client base across Asia. The company currently manages over 45 assets with 2.2 million m² in net lettable area and has offices across India, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore with a mandate to grow in the region.

Cynthia Chan, National Director, Project & Development Services (PDS), Jones Lang LaSalle Shanghai was named the winner in the Landmark Project Achievement category for leading the project management consultancy of Mattel's global flagship, House of Barbie Experience Store. This important development in Shanghai is the first ever full-scale retail project that PDS Shanghai has secured. Ms Chan correctly foresaw the need to explore other market sectors beyond the traditional commercial office fit-out and industrial projects that are Jones Lang LaSalle's forte in project management. Clinching the appointment for House of Barbie and delivering the project successfully demonstrated her vision and keen eye for market potential as it has opened up new opportunities for Jones Lang LaSalle in the retail project management services sector in Shanghai and China.

The 86,000 ft², five-story House of Barbie combines retail, large scale interactive activities, F&B, spa, fashion runway, product launches and club membership under one roof. It is the first ever "concept" and "experience" store with the largest investment by Mattel across the world that offers customers a unique "alternative reality" shopping experience.

Ashford Pritchard, Managing Editor, RFP Magazine says, "The RFP Outstanding Individuals in Industry Awards recognise the often overlooked personal achievements of professionals within the industries of the built environment, and this year, we were blown away by the quality and accomplishments of the nominees. Peter's role in the creation of Sandalwood created a new regional force in retail consultancy, while Cynthia was instrumental in bringing one of the year's most exciting projects to completion. Both Peter and Cynthia have scaled the heights of their respective fields and it is fitting that the judging panel chose to commend their excellence."
