NL Balanced Fund Awards, FLTR: Marinus Dijkman, President REP; Henk Jagersma, Chairman Syntrus Achmea; Laurent Ternisien Managing Director IPD; Wim Runderkamp, Butcher's Pension Fund; Peter Appeljan, Director Residential Investments Syntrus Achmea

The Awards identify demonstrated and consistently measured real estate investment performance across 11 European countries, divided into two categories:

  • Ten Balanced funds: Highest total return annualized over three years to December 2008; and:

  • Eight Specialist funds: Highest total return, relative to the appropriated sector benchmark, annualized over three years to December 2008.

The Awards – determined by IPD using standardized data held in its extensive databases – recognize independently verified investment performance by pension and life funds, pooled funds, property investment companies and other professionally managed real estate portfolios across Europe.

This year's IPD European Property Investment Conference had a number of notable highlights including; how world governments can do more to help restore lasting market confidence and liquidity; where early opportunities lie within European property markets as well as the launch of the IPD 2008 Global Property Annual Index.

Ian Cullen, co-founding director of IPD, said: "The context in which this year's winners receive their performance awards is as chaotic as we have ever recorded at IPD, and certainly the most extraordinary set of market conditions in the four years since their inception. The extent to which the participating countries have been affected by the global market turmoil has however been remarkably diverse across Europe, adding further support to our view that a three year measurement horizon is the right period over which to reward fund managers."
