ING Real Estate has been contracted to redevelop the 15,000-m² Galerie de la Toison d'Or or Golden Fleece shopping center in Brussels. The owners have commissioned ING Real Estate to modernize and upgrade the premises as well as upscale the retail mix. The number of retail units will be halved, from 80 to 40, and a spacious open floor plan will replace the original labyrinth structure of this typical 1960s shopping center.
FNAC, a leading European retailer of books, music, pcs and consumer electronics, has already signed up as one of the anchor tenants of the new Toisson d'Or shopping center.
Renovation is expected to begin in early 2008. The refurbished shopping center is scheduled to reopen in October 2009 although part of the shopping center will remain open during the redevelopment period.
