ICSC announces finalists in its annual Asia shopping center awards

Throughout its history, the International Council of Shopping Centers, Inc. (ICSC) has recognized and honored the shopping center industry's most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends, as well as outstanding examples of design and development throughout the world through its Global Awards programs. As part of the shopping center industry's premier awards competition, ICSC is pleased to announce that 64 entries from an impressive 109 entries made it onto the short list of finalists in its annual Asia Shopping Center Awards competition.

The 109 entries, representing 15 Asian countries, mark an increase of 17% from the inaugural awards in 2008, which had 93 entries. The 2009 ICSC Asia Shopping Center Awards are designed to recognize outstanding achievement in marketing and design and development of retail properties.

The 2009 ICSC Asia Shopping Center Awards competition was open to shopping center owners, developers, management companies, architects and designers, and retailers. For entries in the marketing category, the majority of the marketing program must have been implemented between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2009. Within this category, shopping centers which have designed and implemented the most successful marketing and programs that added to a shopping center's or company's bottom line will be honored. Successful projects such as advertising, community service events, public relations programs, sales promotions, grand openings, expansions, and renovations, and business-to-business type efforts and initiatives will be recognized within this category.

Awards will be given to shopping centers that are less than 150,000 ft² (13,935 m²) of total retail space; 150,000-500,000 ft² (13,935-46,451 m²) of total retail space; over 500,000 ft² (46,451 m²) of total retail space; a corporate/company initiative, and a joint center effort.

For entries in the design & development category, retail projects must have been opened within the 18-month period, January 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008. Entries within the design and development category will be recognized for outstanding design qualities and creativity in development, through renovation or expansion of an existing property or in the innovative design of a new retail project. Awards will be given to shopping centers that are less than 150,000 ft² (13,935 m²) of total retail space; 150,000-500,000 ft² (13,935-46,451 m²) of total retail space; centers over 500,000 ft² (46,451 m²) of total retail space and mixed-use centers.

All 2009 Gold winners are automatically eligible to win ICSC's Global 'Best-of-the-Best' Award. The Best-of-the-Best awards, which recognize the shopping center industry's most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends, throughout the world, will be presented during the Night of the Stars gala dinner at ICSC's annual convention, RECon, May 23-25, 2010 in Las Vegas.
