Husum Shopping Center (HSC) has received the green light. Last week, Husum’s policy-makers agreed to the development plan (B-Plan) of the former Hertie site in the old town of Husum, Germany, with just one abstention. The decision by the city representatives was preceded by intense public debate and a design competition for the facade. H&M, EDEKA and dm have already been signed as anchor tenants. The opening of the Husum Shopping Center is scheduled for autumn 2018.

Martin Mörl, Managing Director of Prelios Immobilien Management, said: “The clear vote of the town of Husum in favour of the development plan for the site is a key milestone in the development of the Husum Shopping Center. Thanks to a consistent overall concept, extensive discussions on site and a convincing draft design for the façade as a result of the competition, we have been able to reach a result that has been accepted by all sides.” Mörl added: “The rental agreements already concluded with three well-known anchor tenants and the high demand for the remaining rental space clearly shows that Husum is a prime location for retail.“

Peter Cohrs, one of the managing partners of Husum Shopping Center GmbH in addition to Dr. Gisbert Beckers from BNS Real Estate GmbH, commented: “The unanimity of the decision by the bodies of the town of Husum is a remarkable sign of approval for this project among policy-makers. Following the resolution to adopt the B-Plan, the demolition of the former Hertie building and the groundwork for the construction of the Husum Shopping Center can begin in the next few months. We want to get started as soon as possible.”

Prelios Immobilien Management is responsible on behalf of the owners for handling project development, leasing and the subsequent management of the Husum Shopping Center. The winning design for the facade facing Großstraße was selected unanimously by the jury of six comprising representatives of the town of Husum, the lower monument conservation authority, the project developers and the owners. Plans call for a total area of 12,000m² – accommodating around 35 shops and 650 parking spaces – at the HSC, which will be situated across from the well-known clothing store CJ Schmidt in the historic old town.
