Goodman extends Amazon.fr warehouse to 70,000 m² (FR)

Goodman Group has commenced the construction of a 23,400-m² extension to the Amazon.fr logistics center in Orléans. Goodman developed the existing 46,000-m² facility for Amazon.fr, the world's leading e-commerce provider, in 2007. The new storage area will comprise approximately 70,000 m² and provide Amazon.fr with substantial capacity to meet the significant expansion of its activities in France.

The extension is scheduled for completion in June 2011.

The development is located in Orléans, which straddles the municipalities of Saran and Gidy, and is 125 km from Paris and 100 km from Orly Airport. Orléans is the fifth largest logistics market in France with almost 1 million m² of logistics operations. The region is easily accessible via the A10 and A71 motorways, has a high-quality labor pool and is an important trading area.

Goodman has supported Amazon's growth in Europe for many years. This is Goodman's fifth development to be undertaken on behalf of Amazon in Europe, bringing the total floor space developed for them, including current projects, to 417,000 m². The Group has previously developed turnkey facilities for Amazon in the UK and in Germany and is currently developing an approx. 110,000-m² logistics center in Rheinberg, Germany. Goodman also leases a 36,000-m² warehouse to Amazon in Montélimar, France.

Jean-François Mounic, Goodman's Regional Director for Southern Europe, said: "Goodman has a close relationship with Amazon thanks to our integrated real estate model and the local expertise of our teams. The construction of the new extension at Orléans, together with the rental of a 36,000-m² warehouse in Montélimar last year, shows the strength of our relationship with Amazon and our proven ability to deliver flexible, tailored property solutions to support the growth of their business in France."

Raimund Paetzmann, Director of European Real Estate, Amazon.eu, said: "We selected Goodman because of their proven capability in delivering high quality logistics real estate and are pleased to be working with them again to develop this new extension for our logistics center in Orléans. Thanks to its excellent geographical location and strong labor pool, Orléans is the ideal place for this new development."

Goodman is undertaking the Amazon.fr logistics center extension on behalf of its European Logistics Fund (GELF) and is scheduled for completion in June 2011.
