Goodman, a global owner, developer and manager of industrial real estate, has developed a 57,500m² turnkey logistics facility in Beringen for Mobis Parts Europe, the official dealer for KIA and Hyundai parts. The new distribution centre is one of the largest logistics real estate projects on the Belgian market this year. Goodman has strong experience providing real estate solutions for the automotive industry, having developed over 500,000m² for the sector in Continental Europe.

Mobis relocated to the new distribution centre in Beringen to support the growth of its business. The new facility, situated in the Belgian province of Limburg, now serves as the central warehouse for Mobis, Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors, and will directly supply customers in the Benelux, France and Switzerland. The new building provides 54,500m² of warehousing space, which includes a 2,500m² mezzanine and 3,000m² of office space.

To meet Mobis’ specific operational needs, the ceilings are more than 12 metres high, the building has a reinforced floor, and provides separate spaces for hazardous materials and tyre storage.

Unal Aytan, Senior Manager Operations at Hyundai Mobis Europe: "The new, modern distribution centre developed by Goodman will enable us to modernise our supply chain and better service our internal and external customers, while reducing our natural resource consumption. Goodman has listened closely to our needs and has added a number of specific features to the building that further ensure the safety of our employees and help us operate more efficiently.”

Sustainable solution

Goodman equipped the distribution centre with LED and motion sensor lighting throughout and provided natural daylight and reflective white coating on the walls and ceiling in the warehouse. Additionally, the building benefits from a rainwater collection system. These features will help to reduce energy consumption costs and natural resource use.

“The success of the project was due to the good cooperation between Goodman and Mobis, which embodies our customer-centric approach to real estate,” said Kim Cornille, Goodman Country Manager for Belgium. “Furthermore, the project demonstrated our technical expertise in designing complex facilities that meet the specific needs of the automotive industry, while at the same time providing a solution that reduces natural resource consumption.”

Strategic location

The distribution centre is located at the Ravenshout Noord industrial centre in Beringen, with access to multiple modes of transportation. The building is situated close to the Albert Canal, linking Liege, Genk, Hasselt, Herentals and Antwerp, and the E313 motorway, connecting the site to Antwerp and the German Ruhr area.
