Goodman, a global leading owner, developer and manager of logistics real estate, handed over a new logistics centre at Star Park in Halle to Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. In opening the new facility, Hellmann has expanded its offering for multi-channel retailers of DIY articles and customers in the consumer electronics industry. The ceremony was attended by Jörg Felgner, Minister of the Economy of the State of Sachsen-Anhalt, and Dr. Bernd Wiegand, Mayor of the City of Halle, among other distinguished guests.

The logistics centre, conveniently located close to Hellmann’s offices in Krostitz (district of Nordsachsen), is being used to handle the logistics for its customers baumarkt direkt and Electronic Partner. Star Park Halle, with its excellent infrastructure, is ideally located to manage logistics for consumer products targeting German and international markets. The logistics park benefits from a direct connection to the A14 and A9 motorways, and is located 10 km from Europe's fifth largest cargo airport. It also profits from the Halle container terminal and has good connections to the Halle railway freight yard.

"We needed a strong partner for our new distribution centre who was able to accommodate our needs. We found that partner in Goodman. Together, we developed a new logistics centre that improves our competitive position and further strengthens our customer service. With direct access to the trans-regional infrastructure network we can offer shorter delivery times all over the country," explained Klaus Hellmann, Managing Director at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.

Goodman already manages 150,000m² of logistics space for DIY retailers and has an overall portfolio of more than 1 million m² for its online and multi-channel customers in Germany.

Efficient logistics services at a top location

The new facility has a clear height of 10.50 m and over 21,000m² in storage space, 430m² for offices and common areas as well as a 270m² covered outdoor storage area. The 22 loading gates allow Hellmann to handle incoming articles efficiently, process orders rapidly and prepare shipments for customers and the retail trade. The property is fitted with LED lighting, saving energy costs and contributing to the sustainability of Hellmann’s business. The property has a Gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

"With this new logistics centre, Hellman reinforces its commitment to Halle and the State of Sachsen-Anhalt. It joins a number of prominent businesses at Star Park, which provides a decisive stimulus for our regional economy and shows the advantages of Halle as a major logistics location in Germany,” said Jörg Felgner, Minister of the Economy of the state of Sachsen-Anhalt.

Successful in the Leipzig/Halle area

Goodman has already successfully completed several developments in the Leipzig/Halle region. At Star Park Halle, the company recently handed over a new logistics centre to Radial (eBay Enterprise) and developed a 12,000m² property at Delitzsch north of Leipzig for packaging manufacturer Smurfit Kappa. Since 2006, Goodman has developed almost 330,000m² in the region for various customers including Amazon, REWE, Schenker and Schnellecke.

“We have seen a noticeable increase in customer interest in the Leipzig/Halle logistics region, with the excellent infrastructure helping to revitalise their national and international business activities. Consequently, the region also plays an important role in Goodman's growth strategy. We already manage over eight properties in the region, totalling 316,000m² of space," explained Christof Prange, Goodman Head of Business Development in Germany.

Goodman has additional space available at Star Park Halle, where it can develop up to 35,000m² of new logistics space. The land is designed for built-to-suit developments, which can be split up into four units ranging from 6,000m² to 10,000m².

Dr. Bernd Wiegand, Mayor of the City of Halle, emphasised the appeal of the region for logistics: “Star Park Halle benefits from excellent infrastructure for logistics and offers investors space for immediate development. The city provides quick approval processes and a single point of contact. These conditions, combined with the creativity and cultural diversity of our city, make Halle (Saale) an attractive location in the European Metropolitan region known as ‘Central Germany’.”
