Gianluca Romano joins Courtland as Managing Director for Europe

As part of its ongoing global expansion, Courtland Partners, Ltd., an institutional real asset (real estate, infrastructure and energy) consulting services firm, has announced that Gianluca “Luca” Romano has joined the company as a Managing Director to lead its European efforts. He will be working out of London as the company’s first European-based employee.


“After having spent the past decade in investment management and consulting in Europe, I was attracted to Courtland’s focus on being a fiduciary advisor to clients and its industry leading analytical techniques,” said Romano. “I am committed to bringing Courtland’s full range of real asset consulting services to the company’s growing European client base.”

Not only will he enhance our capabilities with respect to the European markets and managers, he will help us in developing and providing services to European and other non-U.S. based clients.”


Romano’s experience includes working as an investment banker with ABN AMRO in its Structured Real Estate Capital group and as a private equity real estate portfolio manager with Morgan Stanley Properties, an asset management company for the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds. He managed distressed portfolios in Italy totaling over €5 billion in gross book value.


Other experience includes serving as a director and COO of Vision Consulting in the UK, where he led the firm’s internal restructuring and worked with UK and Irish clients, including completing the valuation of an onshore wind farm. As a consultant with Boston Venture Partners, he developed joint venture relationships relating to the firm’s real estate opportunity fund. He was also a senior manager in KPMG’s Milan and New York offices.


Prior to living in Europe, Romano held associate and analyst positions with National Economic Research Associates, Inc., New Windsor Associates and Kwasha Lipton.


Romano earned an A.B. in mathematics and economics from Duke University. He holds a master’s in European integration from the University of Amsterdam and a master’s in economics from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio, USA), where he was the Charles S. Davis award recipient.


Romano also spent an additional year of graduate study at the London School of Economics concentrating on microeconomics and industrial organization. He is a native English speaker and fluent in Italian.
