Forum Rotterdam is the new name of the revolutionary plan for an innovative new retail and multi-residential office and cultural destination on Coolsingel in the heart of downtown Rotterdam. New icon on Coolsingel
The bold, transparent design by OMA is a recognizable and iconic structure in the center. It connects the three busiest routes and major shopping routes of Lijnbaan Binnenwegplein and Beurstraverse ('Koopgoot'). Developer Multi Vastgoed of Gouda developed the 'Koopgoot' (Beurstraverse), which opened in 1997.

The adjacent historic Bank Building has a prominent role in the new plan under the supervision of specialist monument architects Wessel de Jonge architects (whose work includes the famous Van Nelle Design Factory).

Major boost for Rotterdam
Forum Rotterdam is the epitome of the modern lifestyle in downtown Rotterdam. It is a universally accessible complex, which combines commercial and social functions together. An urban connection to cultural, commercial and service activities. The intention of the municipality, architects and Multi is to give a major boost to the city, taking Rotterdam to a new phase of postwar development.

Alderman Karakus reacted that the design of OMA is an asset for the city. "We are pleased that Forum Rotterdam becomes a bridge between Koopgoot, Lijnbaan and Binnenwegplein. The complex functionally and physically marks an important place in the center. It suits the ambition of the municipality of Rotterdam to intensify the attractiveness of the city. Rotterdam has the quality impulse: there is a drive to host new stores to Rotterdam. In order to create such space you have to have a special project and Forum Rotterdam is desperately needed."

Vertical city
Multi Vastgoed is clear that Forum Rotterdam will be the focus for a wide range of activities, full of vitality, even after closing time. Heino Vink, Director of Multi Vastgoed: "This is the logical sequel to the Koopgoot that has given Rotterdam a new spine. It reinforces the identity of the spine. Forum Rotterdam constitutes the missing link in the center and this center will bring a new quality."

The new building, 66-m high, stands on all levels in conjunction with the historic Bank building and in all directions there are connections to the surrounding streets. The entrances to the offices, the hotel and residences are located in the Bank Building on Coolsingel. Shops and restaurants are, on many layers grouped around an attractive and vibrant inner space in Forum Rotterdam. No fewer than six floors of shops over three open levels create two-storey shops with facades of up to 9-m high. This is a totally different scale than people in the Netherlands are used to. It makes the experience of space much more intense and gives the tenant a double exposure. The mix of features makes Forum Rotterdam a destination in itself: a
