Donation of € 8,2 billion for Afghanistan

At a donor conference in Berlin on Wednesday 31 March and Thursday 1 April, over fifty countries promised to contribute a total amount of € 8,2 billion to the restoration of the safety and redevelopment of Afghanistan.

More than half of the amount - € 4,5 billion - will be available in the first year. Afghan President Karzai was very pleased with the international donation. Many years of wars have left deep scars in Afghanistan. In the Afghan capital Kabul the situation is quite safe nowadays; opposite to the situation in the rest of the country. Karzai commented at the donor conference: “Drugs, warriors and terrorism are accumulating factors. In order to realize a peaceful situation, we will have to deal with all three factors together. We have no other choice.”
