Leading independent financial services company Cofunds, advised by Gerald Eve, is to relocate its Chelmsford office to Witham, Essex after signing a new lease for Mayland House.
Cofunds, which operates the UK's largest independent investment platform, has taken the 70,444 ft² (6,544 m²) building from landlord Braintree District Council on a new 15-year lease. Extensive refurbishment works are planned prior to the relocation of 600 staff to Mayland House, while existing tenant Randall & Quilter will remain in the premises as a sub-tenant of Cofunds as part of the deal.
Isabel Parker, Associate at Gerald Eve, said: "This is the largest office letting in Essex for a decade, which not only highlights the suitability of the premises for Cofunds requirements, but also demonstrates the firm's faith in Essex as a place to do business. Mayland House is a superb location for Cofunds and, once the refurbishment works have been completed, will offer a first-rate working environment for the relocated members of staff."
Martin Davis, Chief Executive Officer of Cofunds, added: "Our architects are working-up some exciting designs for the extensive refurbishment of Mayland House, and we see great potential for really putting our mark on the building to make it a 'home' fit for our long-term plans. We're very much looking forward to working with local businesses so we can really be a part of the Witham community."
